The book of souls

Iron Maiden haben weder mit dem laschen "Final Frontier"
noch dem lauen bis schwachen "Dance of death" (Ausnahme
Übersong "Paschendale") kaum einen Blumentopf geholt. Mit
"The book of souls" geht es qualitativ wieder Richtung "A
matter of life and death", was mit schon progartigen Songs
punkten konnte und sich auch langfristig für mich als
Lichtblick in Sachen moderne Maiden herauskristalisiert hat.
Mit "The book of souls" macht man wieder vieles richtig,
aber eine Bombe ist das Album bis auf das coole Artwork
sicher nicht. Keine Frage sind Songs wie "If Eternity Should
Fail", "The Book of Souls" und "Shadows of the Valley"
großartige Titel, aber selbst das hochgelobte Epos "Empire
of the clouds" kann gegen Mammutwerke wie "Rime of the
ancient mariner" oder "Hallowed be thy name" nicht
anstinken. Ein Album mit 70 Minuten Spielzeit hätte es auch
getan - und man hätte das Material dann durchaus auch
stimmiger zusammenkürzen können. Enttäuscht bin ich nicht
wirklich, aber dem Juwel "Brave new world" weine ich dann
doch immernoch hinterher.
